Knitted Garter Stitch Slippers

SIZES: Small, Medium, Large

Materials :

AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY

"AUNT LYDIA'S" HEAVY RUG YARN

2—70 yd. skeins (all sizes) Yellow

1 Pr. Knitting Needles No. 8

OR ANY SIZE NEEDLE

WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW

GAUGE: 4 sts = 1 inch

Directions are given for small size.

Changes for medium and large sizes given in parentheses.

Cast on 35 (43, 51) sts. 1st ROW: K across row. 2nd ROW: Inc in 1st st, K 16 (20, 24), K the strand before next st (to inc: K the horizontal yarn between the 2 sts), K 1, K the strand after next st (inc), all center inc will be worked in same manner, K 16 (20, 24), inc in last st. 3rd AND ALL UNEVEN ROWS: K across each row. 4th ROW: Inc in 1st st, K 17 (21, 25), inc, K 3, inc, K 17 (21, 25), inc in last st. 6th ROW: Inc in 1st st, K 18 (22, 26), inc, K 5, inc, K 18 (22, 26), inc in last st. 8th ROW: K 20 (24, 28), inc, K 7, inc, K 20 (24, 28). 10th ROW: K 20 (24, 28), inc, K 9, inc, K 20 (24 ,28). 12th ROW: K 20 (24, 28), inc, K 11, inc, K 20 (24, 28). 14th ROW: K 20 (24, 28), inc, K 13, inc, K 20 (24, 28). For last 2 sizes work as follows: 15th and 16th ROWS: K across each row. 15th (17th, 17th) ROWS: K across 35 (39, 43) sts, turn. NEXT ROW: K 2 tog, K 11, K 2 tog, turn. NEXT ROW: K across 33 (37, 41) sts. NEXT ROW: K across all sts. NEXT ROW: K across 33 (37, 41) sts, turn. NEXT ROW: K 2 tog, K 9, K 2 tog, turn. NEXT ROW: K across 31 (35, 39) sts. NEXT ROW: K across all sts. NEXT ROW: K across 31 (35, 39) sts, turn. NEXT ROW: K 2 tog, K 7, K 2 tog, turn. NEXT ROW: K across 29 (33, 37) sts. NEXT ROW: K across all sts. NEXT ROW: K across 29 (33, 37) sts, turn. NEXT ROW: K 2 tog, K 5, K 2 tog, turn. NEXT ROW: K across 27 (31, 35) sts. NEXT ROW: K across all sts. NEXT ROW: K across 27 (31, 35) sts, turn. NEXT ROW: K 2 tog, K 3, K 2 tog, turn. NEXT ROW: K across 25 (29, 33) sts. NEXT ROW: K across all sts. NEXT ROW: Beading: K 1, * Y O, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row. NEXT ROW: K across row counting the Y O as a st. Bind off leaving a length of yarn to weave back lower seams tog, matching rows and stitches. CORD: Cut three 1 yd. lengths. Tie one end, braid tightly, tie other end. Lace through beading. POMPONS: (Make 2.) Wind yarn 25 times over a 2¾ inch cardboard and tie in center. Cut both ends and trim into shape. Tie to each end of cord. Work another slipper in same manner.

Tote Bag

Materials Required:

AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY

"AUNT LYDIA'S" HEAVY RUG YARN

4-70 yd. skeins Black (Main Color)

1-70 yd. skein each Fern Green,

Lilac and Watermelon (Contrasting Color)

1 Pr. Knitting Needles No. 8

½ yd. lining

½ yd. buckram

GAUGE: 4 sts = 1 inch

PATTERN:

1st ROW: With MC K 1, drop MC, keep yarn not being used to back of work, * with a CC K 3, with MC K 1, repeat from * across row. 2nd ROW: With MC K 1, keep yarn not being used to front of work, * with CC sl 1, P 1, sl 1, with MC K 1, repeat from * across row, cut CC. 3rd ROW: With MC K 2, * sl 1, K 3, repeat from * across row ending last repeat with K 2. 4th ROW: K 1, * P 3, K 1 repeat from * across row. 5th to 8th ROWS: K across each row. Repeat these 8 rows for pattern.

BAG

(Make 2.) With Black cast on 49 sts, K 2 rows: START PATTERN working in following color scheme: * 1st color stripe Fern Green, next Lilac and next Watermelon. Repeat from * twice; then work 1 more stripe in Fern Green. Complete pattern. Bind off.

FINISHING:

Block both sections. Having wrong sides of bag facing, with Black sew 2 long and 1 short edge together.

LINING:

Cut 2 sections of material ½ inch larger than bag. Cut 2 sections buckram same size as bag. Sew the 2 lining sections together along 2 long and 1 short edge. Place in bag, insert buckram sections, turn under a ¼ inch hem and sew lining to upper edge of bag.

HANDLE AND TRIM:

Cut six 90 inch lengths of each color. Tie one end of lengths together. Divide evenly in 3rds. Braid tightly keeping braid flat. Tie other end to form tassel. Starting at lower right corner of bag sew braid alongside edge to top of bag, skip 22 inches of braid for handle, sew braid to other side of bag allowing for tassel as illustrated.
